The only parts of California that is genuinely "California" are the cities. With only few exceptions, every rural part of California is Christian, devil red, and hard right. Take a drive along I5 up and down the central valley and you'll see a buttfuckload of political signs dotting the roadway slamming city liberals for fucking up the rural way of life, taking away their rights, and denying them access to the water they depend on to grow crops and raise animals. Trek on up into the Sierra Nevada mountains to the east and you'll find a bunch of pissed off retired men and women just trying to enjoy their last few years of life out in the pines, but who end up forced to drive 100 miles or more into town to work as a dishwasher or some shit because property tax goes up in leaps and bounds each year and they can't afford it anymore despite living there for decades. Head up north of Redding and you'll find a bunch of people trying to form their own state of Jefferson because their voices are completely ignored in the Californian political game, and they're treated like fleas in the carpet.

It'll take an act of God to help the cities when these people are finally pushed over the edge and march to the capital looking to exact revenge for all these decades of being punished for wanting to live a quiet, simple life in solitude.
