The 1 mm far infrared seen here is not escaping the black hole. It is the wavelength the compressed plasma glows with in the event horizon accretion disk. That is how we see the "shadow" of the black hole cutting off the light at an abrupt radius where the IR heat fails to escape. Other wavelengths like X-ray are there too and were used, but the big jets of plasma the black hole is throwing around itself glow too brightly in the shorter wavelengths to see all the way to the event horizon like they can with the very specific 1 mm wavelength. They want to bump up to 0.8 mm for more resolution, but different materials glow at different wavelengths so they are stuck with the wavelength range Specific to the event horizon.

The only way to "see" a black hole is by observing the lensing of light around the singularity. So if this is a black hole then we are either observing the front or back side of it.

If we are seeing the "event horizon" (Hawking said this doesn't exist due to hawking radiation) then it is assuming that whatever the light is in the background is either showing us that this black hole is pointed right at us or that the black hole is currently absorbing the energy that is allowing us to see it.

Either way it's fucked because usually magnetism was the only way to recognize black holes. The idea that we can see them, or even explain them is ludicrous. Special relativity still hasn't fully explained gravity and it's effect on spacetime.

So to put an image in front of someone and to say it exist when there is no plausible formula for it means we are basically being told to accept it. They haven't even tried to actually explain dark matter and dark energy because it defies black holes and special relativity.

Not to mention there are galaxies that currently, relevant to my observation, defy our idea of physics.

Very long wavelengths can move through dense material to be seen, like radio through rock, which visible cannot due to how visible light reacts with electrons in atoms to be absorbed.
