Lots of food grows there naturally.
The seperation from other land masses means less large conflicts, which is the issue.
Europe, the Middle East, and Asia have seen almost constant war for nearly all of recorded history.
War shapes a nation. It breeds a sense of identity of population and allows for the creation of leaders.
Africa like South America has a luxury of less war and easy food, which causes a stagnation in their civilization.

Perhaps by war? Out of many African countries by what I know, Nigeria has one of the stronger militaries and economies. Plus, it's surrounded by nations vastly shittier than it, and that's saying something. For example, Niger's literacy rate is fucking 19% and if I recall correctly already unstable from terrorism. I can't imagine Benin being able to put up much of a fight, Cameroon maybe.

So that being said, a war with one of these nations could create tons of jobs and stimulate the economy. Let's be real here, chances of foreign in an african war post-coldwar is pretty slim. If WW2 was what really pulled the US out of the Great Depression, perhaps it could pull Nigeria out of it's problem. Alongside all that, maybe help jobs and economy through infrastructure construction. Feels like it wouldn't be able to be corrupted as say, trying to harness natural resources.
