In her tedx (..puking) talk, she said that the algorithm produces many images.
out of those images they picked one that fits a certain rhetoric.
if you check the output image with the artists' depiction in motion pictures or ducumentaries, they picked the picture that is closer to the cgi ones.
The data they collected was not just a spectrum shift from x-rays to visible light, or from infrared to visible light, which is the norm in the hubble pictures.
The black hole data and the picture are processed in a way to give us a bunch of pictures, which in turn only the one that makes sense is picked.
no one knows if the picture is accurate, inaccurate. I could take pi digits, use them to generate a pixel map and pick the one that seems like a literal black hole.

They always do this. There was a photo of firefighters raising the flag at Ground Zero a day or so after 9/11. The three firefighters were pretty obviously white. A statue was commissioned base on the photo, and when it was unveiled, one was white, one was Asian and one was black. The artist used the excuse that they wanted to "be inclusive" and "represent all NYFD members." Except that the statue represented a specific historic event. And you can argue about inclusiveness or the hiring practice of the NYFD, but the specific firefighters raising the flag and the vast majority of New York City firefighters are white, probably because as a rule, it's mostly white people who are either Civic minded enough or just plain crazy enough to take a job that requires running into burning buildings.

Doubtful. Understanding the truth behind internet controversies like these requires an intuitive understanding of how misinformation spreads on forums. You need to know where to look for the information. The vast majority of people you encounter irl use only social media.
