Nah, I just work in a shifting industry. I work in fracing on the east coast. Lowest wages, lowest benefits in the industry and tons of small companies all fighting for scraps. Lots of poor desperate people in my state makes it easy pickings for out of state mega corps. The economy is good but nothing ever seems to change here.

I've never done unemployment but we laid off my boss at the start of the year and he has collected 4 months in a row, it was kind of a quasi retirement plan we created for him because he was going to wait till the summer to retire, and we said hey, get free money for 6 months until then and stay home, then stop and collect social security in June, I know it varies by state but in NH you get 430 a week if you qualify for max benefits.

this is strange to us, in the us the oil industry is not well paid... while here it's were you really want to go, high wages. you earn a lot more in america, but here this is where you want to go. if you work at a platform you have 14 days rotation, so you are there for 14 days, then you go home for 14 days and get to be with your kids and whatnot, they pay for the plane and everything too. I personally have done OTR since 2011, I currently did 10 months (3 weeks a month) of work in 2018. I bring in no less than $71k annually, in the last two years; (this excludes "extra $11k [in 2018]") in party DJ gigs, lite carpentry work and big property culling of wild pests. Also @ Canada user, I work out a total of 1 hour of weighted calisthenics a day during my shifts (during breaks and stops [four 15 minute sessions]). No stopping of workout sessions during OTR (if you put just a little effort). Many dips, push ups and pull ups (wearing 20lbs in my back pack)

Losing pads sucks but that generally doesn’t happen unless the company man is already looking to replace you. I worked for a small vac company first that paid 15, lot of politics kept costing us the pads. I just got laid off from a water transfer company. I work in WV, antero runs all the pads here. The pay is better than anything in this state but a lot lower than the industry standard. Hell wireline operators make 70-80k here, 90k after a year or two.
