There's a few tonal problems (especially with the comic relief gargoyles), but Hunchback is arguably one of Disney's best films in terms of material, character, music, and aesthetic.
'Hellfire' is great, as is partner song 'Heaven's Light'. 'Bells of Notre Dame, 'God Help The Outcasts', and 'Out There' are all good too.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys, but in the original 1831 novel (written by Victor Hugo of Les Mesarables fame) Esmeralda is betrayed and hung to death, and Quasimodo curls up beside her grave and dies. The book ends with two grave diggers years later who find a petie skeleton and a huge distorted skeleton hugging each other in the same grave. Disney decided this ending was a little too sever for children and changed it to their standard happy ending.

I disagree, I believe that they think that to show emotional complexity/fragility would be in a way excusing such behavior and they could not make themselves do that because to them, behavior that they consider villianous is equivalent to behavior that they find "inexcusable" thus they cannot "excuse"said behavior by providing an "excuse" for it.
