I don't really interact with anything Spanish related, but after watching Narcos it does sound like a cool language. And apparently, it's rather easy to learn.
French is a very elegant language, and I'd like to read about French monarchism and most of these books are never going to receive any English translations.
I keep shopping on German websites and generally English translation is rather lackluster, thus German might prove useful.
Italian would probably be a good basis if in the future I would like to learn Latin.
If you grab French or Spanish you're horribly stunting your progress. The languages share a lot of commonalities. German and Italian are likely to open up interesting opportunities, though I think Spanish and French are more widely used.
Remember if you can certifiably speak a language, you can sell the skill to employers.

The only one that matters, Italian.

French or German, leaning more towards French tho

With Spanish you can unlock the whole South from US up to the south of America. I think it has the most use. Basically anyone else can speak English as their second language. With French you can also go around a lot, since there are many French speaking nations outside France as well. So I'd say, French Nr. 2. German Nr. 3. I can't think of any reason why to prefer German over French. I mean it has an awful lot of speakers too. And you can access the greatest thinkers of the world in their native tongue. Don't do Italian.
Caleb Reyes
I would say French senpai. The German education system makes most Germans fluent in English. Very few opportunities for using the language. Italians only speak Italian. And while Spanish is the 2nd most common language in the world learning French will give you opportunities in the US Government to be a translator for people visiting Africa and you can join the French foreign legion if everything goes to shit
David Rodriguez
French Foreign Legion, best reason xD

Instead of basing your decisions purely on what sounds cooler, decide based on which language is more useful. For example, the best engineering country is Germany, thus knowing german is an excellent cualification. France is good for Law and such, so french is naturally the way to go. I personally know spanish, english, german (B1 certified) and im just starting french. I think french is going to be the most useful for me. Oh, dont do italian. It sounds sexy and has many nice phrases, but thats it
James Young
Italian is literally useless. The country is corrupt and poverty stricken and the only reason I can think of for learning it would be to read the divine comedy in its original form.
Luis Nguyen
Spanish is the bastard son of latin and arabic. French is the bastard son of latin and ancient germanic languages. Although it has the merit of bringing latin words to English. German is, well, German. On a grammatical point of view, if you're able to tackle german grammar, you're pretty much good to go for other difficult languages, like Russian. Italian is the purest son of Latin. No other languages in the world is as beautiful as Italian. Do not listen to the other ignorant anons

those languages are all lame learn japanese or russian or chinese or like an african language or something cool like that
Lincoln Williams
why are there 6 million Japanese learners and only 3 million Chinese leaners?

First, get a certificate of proficiency in English, then learn Chinese and get the same equivalent certificate. This way you can easily find a white-collar job in a lot of corporations, in the building sector, tech industry etc.
I'm currently going through the course for certificate of proficiency in English and have started learning Chinese on my own, next year I'm enrolling a learning course and then try going for the Chinese certificate, eventually.
Robert Jenkins
>hurr durr learn a language just because it has more speakers to get a job >as if they won't pick a native speaker who speaks English over your basic skills and horrible accent >as if it will help you instead of learning a language well because you like it
Mason Sanders
But the legion entrengere doesn't take Frenchman or native French speakers. And you have to learn French to succeed in that career path. Objectively it is the best language to learn for that reason
Can you elaborate a bit more on this user? I am interested in this route as well but I have not heard anyone really propose this before.
Isaac Morris
I'd say Italian. I love German and if you give it some time, you'll see that it's a very beautiful language (except for its sound, maybe) but it's supposedly hard to learn and people here practically slaughter it And Italian because I absoluetly hate French and just prefer Italy over Spain
