tl;dr they bolstered security, did not learn who the leaker was, hacked themselves in the process, investigated through honeypot, had DNC running a bitcoin miner and had them extraditing files, and then Hillary made up lies about who was hacking who and they went with it, no mention of investigating Guccifer being Seth Rich (and now an "Ongoing Matter"), they paid multiple people money for fake fanfics about trump so they had an excuse to investigate him and create a climate to protect democrats, they interviewed a few people and found nothing related to the confirmation bias they wanted to find, they leaked things to the press and damaged america's integrity worldwide and internally, they leaked things to help their bias, they got removed, investigation continued to interview and found a few people in contempt, is all that happened. Probably the most damaging thing democrats have ever done next to 9/11 and JFK was this investigation. Them realizing that they could apply Hillary's famous abuse of investigations to presidents they do not like.

a mueller testimony will effectively end the investigation giving democrats a way out the back door, and that exit won't anger dems enough to disrupt buttgag's election chances. with the probe done though, business as usual. with or without the probe, the outcome leading to 2020 will have remained the same. what dems failed to account for is in their divisive politics, they've entrenched both themselves and the republicans. removing trump was a long shot to no risk for democrats, maybe it would happen! maybe trump would fuck up hard somehow. but he didn't. and now you've got the whole world watching going into 2020, and republicans are riled up, and primed to grassroots out the moderate block. that war will be hard fought, worse than 2016.
the thing dems are counting on is voter ignorance, because if buttgag can successfully convince the public that he is more fit for office, and the meme of "trump hasn't done anything" doesn't die, then trump will lose. if no one has actually paid any attention, then there's a good shot buttplug wins. and especially since trump has been cast as an existential crisis, lefty voter turnout should be decent regardless of who's running as dem.
if the media refuses to broadcast trumpism, reminding people of your policy wins is going to get much much harder. and the decisive factor isn't based on how well trump can reach his opposing audience. the decisive factor, out of all this, is who's got the dirtiest history.
