Everything's gone to shit since. The closer we end this decade. Pure, unbridled shit. Everything's cynical now. Despondent. Fatalist. Forlorn.
Back then, all those years ago, when something bad happened, an utter and terrible tragedy -- you would be aghast, unnerved, maybe brought to your knees, and probably thought "no, something like this can't happen..." Or along the lines of "that was only one incident; it can't happen again." Now when tragedy strikes, it's brushed off as another day. Fuck, "just another day" is all it feels like.
When misfortune happens to you, or more importantly, to people you care about -- it's no longer surprising. It's now easy to wind up thinking "yeah, sounds about right." Or find that it fits the normal pattern of today's world. Before, when it struck, it never made sense. Too often had they no apparent logic. Repeatedly, they struck in ways that went over your head -- and offered no seeming grasp in reality. The kinds of misfortune that felt so unfair, unnecessary, illogical -- that one of the biggest troubles to stem from them was the conundrum of "how am I expected to handle this crap that I don't have any control over? Especially when I've never done anything to deserve them? What am I supposed to do? Why do I have to suffer this when I have more important obligations to attend to? And how am I supposed to take on hardships that I can't even make sense of?" And now, when misfortune strikes, it feels commonplace and expected; even if no explanations are offered.
And most of all, the amount of wrong people winning power lately. All. Over. The world. Tyrants. Despots. Dictators. Absolute horrors of humanity. When I was a lad, I was brought up under the notion that only good guys win, and bad guys always lose. No exceptions. And now it's flipped. Awful keep winning. While wonderful people, no one cares about.
You have to understand that modern society is always in a state of change. The 2010's are vastly different to the 70's, which were vasty different to the 40's as well. Whether or not it's a downward spiral remains to be seen, but just remember that it's a forever changing thing.

Pretty much the imposed mediocrity we've been living under and the existing power structure's house of cards they've built themselves up on, are becoming unsustainable and people are quickly waking up that fact. You have the looming collapse of the dollar, the fact that they've been poisoning and brain damaging us for decades and are now moving to overtly sterilize and or kill us, geoengineering has destroyed the Earth's ecosystem, insect populations have plummeted, reports of POLLINATING BY HAND have begun. The era of nature providing the bulk and basis of our GDP, for free, is coming to a close. Autism rate in males continues to rise. They've dumbed us down to the point where we're probably not capable of meeting the coming challenges.
It's pretty disappointing. There actually is a lot going on. Most people are now gripped by a suicidal apathy, they're more worthless than ever.

Through most of this short, miserable life, I've been the one to stand back and look at it, and try to lead people to something better. The truth is that knowledge is almost entirely worthless, and I've either been too damaged or am just unsuited to change anything for anyone. The amount of work I've done and handed to you people on a silver platter, and it remains ignored. You gotta be subhuman.

Well, actually I do know exactly what happens. It's a persistent lack of tangible results and just general fatigue with how fucked up things really are. "Crisis". Haven't slept in 36 hours. A lot of caffeine. I don't get things done like I used to.
Honestly, the amount of information I've structured and dispersed, for free, getting nothing but baseless rejections and substanceless garbage in response. That's a lot of time in energy, and I mostly get berated in response. You'd be amazed how patient I can be.
