"Catch him later" entails a high speed pursuit through streets around other people. The guy was in a stolen car. The police officer told him repeatedly over the course of minutes to put his hands up, to stop, and to get out. He refused and tried to drive off with the officer in the way of his vehicle. The lives of law-abiding citizens are worth an infinite amount more than someone that steals cars and tries to run. Putting anyone else in danger to lessen the danger to this man is completely unacceptable.
