This is so simple it hurts trying to explain it to the 'Hillary won' people.
There are 50 states. There are varying amounts of people within those states. Regardless of how many people are in those states - each state has an equal voice in the Union.
That is why we are a *REPUBLIC* We are not a *Democracy* We are a *Republic* that has democratic elections by the republic.
We cast a popular vote which tells our Electorate how we have spoken. They take our votes and represent us collectively as a state's population to the Electoral College. They then vote in the next president based on the people's wishes.
It is so easy to understand if you stop, take your emotional thoughts out of it, and just think for a moment... if you take away the EC, then you give any 'side' the chance for mob rule.

Our electorate system and peaceful transition of power *every 4 years without fail* for more than two centuries is the envy of every nation on the planet.

The states with the most population have the most electoral votes

Each state gets 2 bonus votes from the house and a minimum of 1 vote from the college. The rest are divided according to population. This means that very small states can have a say in the election.

Each state gets electors based on # of senators and # of house reps, that's why the minimum is 3 and why D.C. gets that amount versus something else as a gimme
