Were they really in the wrong though? Iran had been under the control of foreign powers for decades up to that point. After the treatment of Mohammad Mosaddegh could you really blame the extreme reaction of the Iranian people?

Absolutely justified. You can hate Islam, but ousting the Shah and the upper class the way they did was what needed to be done.
