CIVIL WAR SCENARIO (UNITED STATES)

In a civil war, do you guys think the military would split too? Say, if they had no loyalty to the regime anymore, and decided to help the populous. Would the military split and fight each other? Or totally crush one side? Id like to think they would utterly decimate any communist take over / left wing militancy

There won't be a full on civil war (the People vs the Federal Gov) as long as the republicans, namely Trump, hold the White House. Instead you're going to see smaller scale 'people vs people' outbreaks of conflict between groups along ideological lines whilst the Government tries to keep the peace.

If the Dems (or RINOs) get in and start pushing their authoritarian agenda though, then you can expect a classical division between the State and Federal Governments. Along with the military splitting and taking sides as described by the "Red Team Planner".

You clearly have no idea how revolutions / civil wars work do you? There is no keeping peace is the entire country continues to widen in ideological differences. This is the basic premise that inevitably leads to strife and civil war. The rate at which the country is dividing has not slowed at all, it is getting progressively worse. In a hypothetical civil war scenario it would be very important which faction splits and who fires the first shots. If a left wing government were overreaching and right wing factions started banding together and taking shots, the military (though mostly right wing) would be very slow to abandon the legitimately elected government and chain of command. If a right wing government were fighting a rebellion from the left, it would be over in about 72 hours.

I don't think that a possible US civil war would have as much foreign involvement as many burgers here seem to think. This is for two reasons: all foreign powers have internal problems of their own, with a non-negligible risk of civil war, and they'd have nothing to gain.

In Russia, Vladimir Putin is trying to hold on to power. Russia has a lot of internal problems, and traditionally it's always been somewhat of an unstable country. I wouldn't say that a Russian civil war is inevitable, but it's at least a possibility. In China, the coast vs. interior divide is growing ever more larger and polarizing. This has usually been the dividing line in Chinese civil wars. Meanwhile, Europe might be in for civil wars of its own. Either that or traditional wars between countries. The risk of these civil wars, or any possible outcomes (and whether or not they'd happen at the same time as a US civil war) would determine if they want to participate.

Second, there just wouldn't be all that much to gain by getting involved in a US civil war. It's incredibly difficult for powers outside the North American continent to try an hold US territory. After US reconstitutes itself, first thing it will do is take back territories that have been taken from it. Mexico or Canada might have an interest in annexing US territory, but it seems risky for them since they're minor players. The most valuable thing to win from a US civil war would be US military might, but that wouldn't do outside powers any good since all that would be used up in the US civil war. Best anyone could hope for is a strong ally after the civil war, but even then it's risky.

All that being said, if the US were to have a civil war, I don't think outside powers would do much about it, aside from maybe supplying arms to factions that are aligned with them.
