i think you're greatly overestimating the power of nuclear weapons senpai. even with 50 tsar bombs most of the country will be ok.
an expecting a foreign power on the other side of the world to protect you or even care that you're getting nuked is about the dumbest thing you can do, sure at some point you can have a defensive alliance with them and they'd honor it but internal politics and geopolitical standings change all the time and can change rapidly.
you dont have to get an all powerful army but nuclear deterrence makes sure that even if a foreign power is orders of magnitude more powerful a war with you is simply not worth the inevitable damage to them.they may win but they'll have a crater where a major army base or a city used to be.
