You have a 200k year salary but don't have 6 months expenses worth of savings?

I'm 28 and make $150k and have a 10 years worth of savings if don't count my family.

I live in a very high cost of living area, I have a lot of financial commitments, and I've put almost all of my savings into retirement accounts, not anything liquid.

I'm saving about 20% of my salary these days. Currently have enough cash for ~3 months of expenses. Will probably take a little under 2 years at this rate to reach that goal.
