Why the fuck aren't more people keeping these threads alive

You know what fuck it I'm gonna make a /sig/ thread on Jow Forums

People on Jow Forums are demotivated lately, and with reason. Just look at the threads on Jow Forums, too much shit makes people think they are in the wrong place. And the trolls, you cant deny the cyberbullying happening (yes, this is Jow Forums, but this is true still).

Good luck user.

anonymity with a dash of suppressed mental illness and abuse is a very powerful thing.

Whatever the reason I love /sig/, is something different and like this is a thing, so I copied the last OP.

Lets do this and see who else joins.

There is no such thing as self improvement, just self change.
Doing activities like working out and socializing does not inherently improve you as a person, it just makes you a different person that is more comfortable around other people.

If your goal is just to hang out with more people or get fit, then "self improvement" will work.
Otherwise it's basically just working towards becoming someone else's image of what a good person is.

If you better yourself with personal relationships, making strong bonds, not putting overall emphasis on external derivatives for happiness. All of these can be considered self improvements, if you consider living a more meaningful life to be self improving.

And i think there is a universal moral human comas that we can all strive to become closer to?

Just re-watched Naruto through a youtuber and made me realize anime (some at least) can teach you abut life and morals. Thank you Suzy Lu.

Having many strong personal relationships does not inherently give you a meaningful life.
In fact, I would say that trying to give labels to what is and isn't a meaningful life is useless because everyone has their own ideas of what it is.
Your idea for a meaningful life might be accepted by most people, but that does not mean that it is objectively true.

This is true when referring towards a "universal moral human" that we should strive towards as well.
Every person, society, and time period has a different idea of what a morally good human is.

Not saying that working out, socializing, and trying to think clearer aren't generally good things, but I don't like the label "self improvement" because in the end they all just things that might help you depending on who you are and where you are in your life.

>Coming to a self improvement thread when you don't believe that self improvement is real or possible

Attached: Alrighty-Then.jpg (500x330, 28K)

Thought I'd give my opinion and hear opposing arguments.

And hey at least I'm bumping the thread for you ;)

True, i would say what gives you a meaningful life is subjective to the individual and what they define as meaningful. However, the basic themes of "self-improvement" could logically be consistent for a simple majority.

And that is true, what is morally good does change upon the times. That is of course if you dont prescribe to a religious identity guiding a group of people , that tends to stay relativity consistent.

Regardless, what would be beneficial to this /sig/ thread would be t define some clear goals , using straw polls to determine what we as a group value in a majority sense. Then it could altogether benefit us more so than stating general things that may or may not apply to the majority in /sig/!

So fair points m8

Life is full of wonders if one has the eyes to see. I believe doing self-improvement is like giving you a pair of goggles to see better.

Just my two cents.

Reposting some advice:

1) Eat Well
2) Drink well (Water)
3) Exercise a lot and complement it with a little bit of lifting. Practice a various ranges of different physical activities that both
involves strength and cardio
4) Read a lot (political, novels, practical, philosophical, historical,...)
5) Minimize unproductive and unfulfilling instant gratification activities (video games, web browsing, internet and smartphones, TV, ...)
which are a hindrance to your grows in everyway possible.
6) Cold showers at the minimum always. Extremely good for the body and mind.
7) Sleep well (more or less 8 hours)
8) Meditate everyday (very very good for the mind)
9) Practice a lot of activities, be thirsty for new activities which allows you to acquire new skills: Dancing, theater, learning to X,Y or
Z , Go to the shooting range, go hike in the mountain,... All you want really, as long as it's not degenerate of course but instead,
generate.
10) Have some form of spirituality in your life...Might it be Christianity but also something else. It must not be exclusive too, you can
have different forms of spirituality. This i very important, because it is what differentiate us from animals.
11) Stay away from comfort. Like Plato says, comfort is corrupting. Live in discomfort, sleep on the wooden flood, go swim in a river or
lake in winter, remove all chairs in your houses and only stand fully or in 3rd world squats,... Really, it will make you way more
stronger, both physically and mentally.

there is a poem out there that i find very motivational and it has gotten me through some pretty rough times in my life, if you all would like to hear it. And it really means so much if you consider the history behind it

I'm interested

Alright , im sure you've heard of it , as its pretty popular for anything motivational and stoic. Nelson mandella used it for motivation during his 27 year prison sentence etc etc

heres the poem;

Invictus - William henley (1888)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Henley was born with TB and it wound up taking his left leg but he never let it get him down. He pushed forward and suffered more terrible losses, like his daughter passing away at the age of 5 etc etc. But there have been accounts that he just keep going always grateful of the day to come. He was truly the master of his fate and the captain of his soul.

Hell even the title of the poem itself literally means unbeatable. This poem is , if i ever get one, going to somehow be incorporated into a tattoo ? Because it truly helped me get over some of the worst periods of my life. As it did for many people actually.

>platitudes
>assumptions
>blame
>plows before horses("you're romantically alone because you watch porn!")
>superstition
>self-help """gurus"""
>MUH STOICISM

Because all the people you think you're making this thread for have already heard all of it. You'll never, ever understand or be able to help because you've never faced a problem that was bigger than you could handle. You've never been broken, spent decades alone, or lived in a world of nothing but despair. You live on a different planet with almost nothing in common. You don't even breathe the same air. Everything you have to say is worthless.

How do I cope with knowing that everyone is better at everything than me?

Just trying to do something like a sport and I automatically get blown away everytime. It's very demotivating desu

Sounds like you know exactly how to live life, why don't you enlighten the rest of us humble peasants?

You cant deny that this poem is a very powerful one ,regardless of you area in life. And dude you have no idea what i , or anyone else in this thread has been through in life. My story is a really rough one , filled with pain and loneliness and sheer hatred for the world. That is until i read that poem up there and took every line of it to heart. I just came in here to share that poem , dont be spewing all that bullshit man.

I only heard parts of it, didnt know the story behind Henley, that is interesting. I like If from Rudyard Kipling youtube.com/watch?v=NBbEFKzZiTk

There's a whole lot more behind it ! yeah its very interesting and it's inspirational as can be. Ill give that a listen brother

How important is lifting bros? I'm too busy and exhausted to go lift, I'd rather just focus on reading or making music. I'm not a fat slob and eat relatively healthily, so what do yall think?

what's this meme about cold showers? A hot shower at the end of the hot day is sometimes the only thing that keeps me going man, I don't want to give that up because muh cold shower memes.

You just made me remember I need to do pushups

It feelsbadman when you look back at how little progress you made in such a long time. I just wish there was a cop-out button. I'm over it man, let me out.

That is really fucking good, i think i first heard that in a zen comics. That shit is so good man, i really want to get both invictus and that poem printed out and put on like a motivational wall ? idk to kind of keep the fire burning

Never give up man, life is hard - its not meant to be a easy ride to the top. It's meant to be hell, its meant to be the one thing pushing you every waking second of the day. So push back and dont live a comfortable life. Live a tested life, a life that you take by the main and ride.

I have a hard time doing push-ups. I forget to breathe once I start tiring out. I can do about 30 in a fast pace and then slow down. Any tips other than the obvious?

You can't have a healthy mind without a healthy body. It's importance cannot be understated.

There is a lot of motivational stuff around. Speaking of zen, printing a few koans would be a good idea, or using stickers at least.

yeah ive been wanting to make a motivational board for a long time now. I have around 20 things i would put on it desu.

Go for it, I have a wall I been wanting to put posters on instead of staring at its empty space, might do it now.

>change
Man, fuck change and fuck effort.

>Only compare yourself to your past self.
actually read the post man
