Getting most out of therapy

So I've decided to bite the bullet and try therapy. It's 130$ a session though and I kind of dont want to do this shit for long, so any tips to get the most out of it? I'm going for anxiety that is ruining my life.
So far I have:
>make a list
>talk fast
>say i dont want therapy longterm and need strategies asap

You don't need therapy to give you coping/self realization strategies
Therapy is for the weak, it's just another person who manipulates and can be manipulated to fill some empty place in one's life such as: pill subscriber, friend for the friendless... It's a crutch. Get off this website and use your brain

Wow this is the kind of person that says "go sleep on the street"
1 dont follow that previous advice
2 therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist?
Theres a ton of mental health doctors , esch has their speciality and their pros and cons
From what i understood during class if they dont talk to you and only give out medicine, its a psyquiatrist
3 try reading previous anxiety problems of other people, it can help you by being a kind of guide

Therapy was the best thing I ever did for myself, by far.
I would say go every other week. That was a good timeframe for me to save money, process between sessions, but finish rherapy as quickly as possible.
Before a session, do some journaling and writing to process your thoughts from the week before and to come up with topics you want to talk about in your session.
That way, you save time by being concise and getting to the meat of issues quickly. Your therapist won't have to dig to understand the situation, so you give them more time to talk. When I started doing that, it was so much better than me just rambling and them asking questions to clarify.

I would say don't talk fast. Try to relax. But tell your therapist time and money is an issue for you, and that you're paying out of pocket. They might even be able to charge you less because of this. Most therapists genuinely want to help, and will do their best to make this happen.

On your own, you can research and start trying to practice mindfulness techniques. It's a little lame but I recently bought a cheap kalimba off of amazon, and it's a very relaxing activity that brings me into the present. Same with jogging or taking walks, if I pay attention to the moment and outside world.

>It's 130$ a session though and I kind of dont want
They just talk to you but you're so fucked up you don't even realize you can figure shit yourself.

bruh therapists get master's degrees, have to follow strict training and ethical codes, and know a shit ton about the brain, current research and neurology... vs. your dumb autistic ass.
People are different. Even if you don't need/want therapy, that doesn't mean no one else does.

>bruh therapists get master's degrees
in BS, Psychology is not a science4
>neurology
That'd be the neurologist and neuroscientist they don't even have a shadow of knowledge compared

>know a shit ton about the brain, current research and neurology..
loooollll
they're literally guessing 80% of the time
there is nowhere near enough research to accurately fix mental problems

It's actually a counselor should I try to find someone more qualified?

>perfect examples of unconscious incompetence

yes, don't see a counselor. I would recommend a psychotherapist. If you need medications, that would be a separate event - seeing a psychiatrist. A psychologist can refer you to a psychiatrist if needed.
In my experience, psychotherapy was life changing, and counselling was a complete waste of money.
Most people see counsellors, which is why I think these stereotypes exist.

They are such parasites. It must be very hard for them to help for lesser money. Maybe they should take some philosophy lessons at the university too, or get treated themselves.

Making a list is good and take it with you to mention everything asap. You could before you go there write down some dreams. As far as i know they must read at least some of them, and write down associations to those dreams, besides that write down some of your problems in detail. As far as i know they must work a bit with it after those sessions and are not allowed to fully ignore your writings, cause they make the hippocratic oath to safe life, and have the law on the ass, if you have a real urgent mental disorder they didnĀ“t check properly. So they will read at least a bit of it and will work with the data.

My advice is to point out all the flaws with therapy and see how they react. It will be a huge redpill and probably force you to value yourself again. It happened to me.

Lol nice joke. They know jack shit about the brain. You don't need a masters degree to understand what it is to be human. That's just another lie that contributes to the mass depression, anxiety, and nihilism in our society. Don't let society crush you.

>if I give a label to a human trait it can help me feel distant from it so I don't have to face the scary parts of life
What do call that? A psychologist.

>source
>dude trust me

They do learn about the brain. Even in first year, they must memorize more about the brain than I think you're capable of. Why do you think so many university psychology departments have MRI machines and other similar equipment?
t. angry a psychologist tried to diagnose me with autism

>muh sources

None of that shit matters they don't give you an MRI to diagnose depression. Its just a bunch of bullshit to convince themselves they are more enlightened than they are. Yeah fuck psychologists they don't help.

Therapy is a useless pile of shit. Get a psychologist, really helps in modulating your personality and understanding your past and current tendencies.

I'm with the NHS in the UK which is free, idk about you guys.

Uhhh dont you have health insurance? You could be getting therapy for free. Even if you dont, youre WAAAY over paying for it per session. Without insurance my therapist was $75 per weekly session.

Cont.

Therapy is basically if you have no loving friends to support you to give you basic reassuring advice when you need it.

Just pop on a support discord and it will be as good as a glorified "nice person" telling you what to do with your life.

>My advice is to point out all the flaws with therapy and see how they react. It will be a huge redpill and probably force you to value yourself again. It happened to me.
This. I once went to a therapist and she tried to hypnotize me. My school paid for four sessions for "free" every quarter, but afterwards realized there's nothing another person could do for my thinking and how my brain works that I cannot do myself.

Imagine thinking a 50 year old woman or a boomer dude being able to say things that would rewire your brain and change your pattern of thinking. As if they have magical skills where certain words/phrases will unlock your mind and relieve you of any anxiety or depression. They're all manipulative liars who will try to make you feel good to pay for future sessions, but not too good because then they will lose you as a client.

All you need is three or four great sessions where they butter you up or seem very concerned about you, you leave a 5 star review on Yelp and Google, and then that's it. Onto the next victim.

Look for a PhD. Counselors have a much less rigorous background educationally and tend to fly by the seat of their pants more than a psychologist with an actual degree. Remember that while psych undergrads are a dime a dozen and representative of no actual especial knowledge, psych doctors are the cream of the crop. They're the ones who fought successfully to get admitted to a highly competitive post grad program and completed it. Look for what they say their focus is and choose based on that. It's likely they've done research on that subject and are practicing with a genuine curiosity to learn more.

>thinking a psychologist doesn't provide therapy
this. See psychologist/psychotherapist is what you want to look for

>It's 130$ a session
How the fuck do people afford this shit?
4 session a month and it is more than I spend on rent.

>$130 for a counselor
yeah, fuck that. OP must live in an expensive as hell area... but most places you can find someone with a PhD running a private practice for cheaper.

Check out the psychology today website listings, OP.
