Office jobs are trash. I've been sub-contracting for about 10 years now since high school. Got myself a wife, a home, two kids, no college debt, and I go fight in my local FGC every Monday night for fun. Unfortunately engineering doesn't even pay well anymore. In addition, Mech Engs are just glorified HVAC mechanics. Stuff like aerospace engineering while interesting, simply isn't worth it because of the lack of jobs. The only stable one is civil engineering but you'll just be a desk jockey or glorified construction manager. Salary also isn't that great compared to software engineers.

Most jobs just aren't worth the effort.

Consider the time and money investment it takes to start driving a forklift vs the time and money investment it takes to get an entry-level job in medicine, law, business, or engineering.
