China never won a war. Even if they switched their military budget with the US' they would still get totally owned. They literally have only beaten monks and villagers in the last few centuries, and only themselves before that. China's only place is in espionage and trickery, but since they can only copy tech and can rarely innovate, they will always be behind. The fact that their state education further encourages closemindedness, rigidity in thought, and obedience, while discouraging free-thinking characters from emerging, further cements China's place as the world's most powerful imitator.
They are only expanding because the West is letting them. All their investments and housing bubble economy would burst overnight if the West got serious with them. China is only sticking around because they make money for the elite, as soon as they cause too many problems they are gone.

Under president Xi they turned 90% into less than 10% poverty in under a decade. In the same decade they also bought the world's biggest ports. Now they are giving out generous loans to developing countries knowing that the countries cannot pay them back and will have to sell of their natural resources in exchange. They have also been developing and securing Africa without aid from the rest of the world and laundering their money in the Canadian real-estate market. Their money is safe in Canada from foreign interference and can be used in future financial expeditions as they have completely defeated the Canadian legal system and had secret courts setup in the country for the single purpose of protecting the Chinese interest from future Canadian politicians and government reform.
