But a husband who slept with other women before marriage generally doesn't make a wife unhappy (though he did hurt those other women's chances of a happy life). Women admire men's sexual conquests, and it somewhat balances out their unease with a man treating other women dishonorably and the risk of STDs. They also like to look up to their husbands as more experienced in life than they are, and they appreciate getting a man that other women clearly want.

Keeping a mistress is also less than ideal, but far more acceptable than a wife cheating on her husband. It's arguably to be preferred over letting the other woman be barren due to a shortage of men, after a war for instance, or turn to prostitution.

For women, sleeping with other men is entirely a negative for the husband. He values her for purity, not experience, and their relationship is built on his confidence that the children she gives birth to are his own. Men almost never see a woman having sex with another man as a "conquest", she's just degraded, so the husband will be unhappy to have a wife of low character. About the only justification for female infidelity would be the incurable infertility of the husband.
