Greek nationalism, as much as any other Balkan nationalism desu, is just a pathetic left-over of the idea of resurrection of the Byzantine Empire and the formation of a modern French revolution inspired nation based on Orthodoxy that would transcend ethnic barriers, not even that prevalent back in that age. The conquest of the East by Alexander and the subsequent Hellenistic period brought Greece into close contact with the Semitic world. As a result there was enormous admixture of non-white blood to Greece from as early as the 3rd century BC.
After the Roman conquest of Greece, things got even worse. The Romans eventually came to embrace a concept of universal citizenship whereby anyone with the Roman Empire was seen as a Roman citizens, regardless of race or heritage.
