No, the most someone might do is that someone runs as an independent nationalist somewhere like West Belfast or South Armagh. They aren't registered yet in the North which I assume means the NP name isn't on the ballot but it doesn't seem like it's as rigorous as in the South to register. I've heard good things about the NP organisation in Belfast though, it bodes well for the future, hopefully they can run in the Stormont elections.

That's probably part of it too. It might also be to increase turnout and stop a anti establishment vote getting a majority with a lower turnout like with the first Nice referendum. Most candidates running in the locals are shite, I'd suggest find some lad in your county who seems alright and help them anyway to at least get experience with canvassing.
There's a case to be made to spoil the ballot so they don't just assume you're happy with the current pack of cunts.

It can split the vote for candidates in the same party, and to a lesser extent people with similar views, as people can transfer on other factors like geography. Last election FG split the vote in Tipperary to not a seat when they had enough vote to get one, SF split the vote too much in Donegal and lost a seat when they had enough votes for the second one too. FF in 2011 would've probably done a bit better if they only ran 1 candidate in some constituencies like Dublin North. Usually though for minor parties they don't have much of a vote anyway, but there are rare cases like Dublin Bay North in the last election where John Lyons might've had an outside chance of a PBP seat if AAA didn't run a candidate along with some other commie.
