No, no, no. Stop this bullshit about a united European ethnos, it's not gonna work and it doesn't matter whether it's the Roman empire doing it, or Nazi Germany. Let the nations be free and let people be people, instead of turning us into cultureless mutts

Fucking Italians, just accept you’ll never be accepted by Western Europe. I have more respect for Romanians then I’ll ever have for you, at least they know their place and when to shut up
>a new nationality policy granting EU nationals the right to claim a form of citizenship independent from individual member states
People are idiots. They should just look at the US, there are also state and federal citizenships. The only difference is that all US states automatically grant and revoke state citizenship based on residency.

State Citizenship vs Federal Citizenship This leaves one born in any of the fifty states with options of citizenship. Because each State of the Union has a separate sovereignty from that of the United States government, there are at least two types of citizenship in America. State citizenship and United States citizenship. While most Americans readily and unwittingly claim to be U.S. citizens, the provisions of these two types of American citizenship are distinct from each other. I personally prefer to not use the term citizen at all and use state national instead. Today the term is presumed to mean the US Citizen, to avoid any confusion, one has nationality with their respective nation-state that they were born in and can utilize the title of state national if/as they see fit.

The California Supreme Court makes the clear distinction between the two types of citizenship in Tashiro v. Jordan, 1927, California Supreme Court

“That there is a citizenship of the United States and a citizenship of a state, and the privileges and immunities of one are not the same as the other is well established by the decisions of the courts of this country”.
