You're going to have different experiences all over the country, but the answer you're looking for is some cities are more "progressive" and "liberal". Normal people understand that classism is actually the villain here, and that being white AND poor is not necessarily a privilege at all, because little to nobody cares about poor white people. This is all to disguise wealth inequality and keep the focus off of the rich exploiting the poor. If anything, the rich hate poor whites the most, because they are perceived to have failed the hardest, yes, they are thought of as unwanted trash and this is why it's much easier to get housing, food stamps, grants etc. as a poor non-white.
