Jews were scapegoats for the First World War, but it wasn't entirely unfounded. The British had promised a homeland to the Jews if they won the war and had control of the land to give it away. Jews in Germany were just as excited about this as Jews everywhere. Many of them didn't want Germany to win. So, for the German people, who had their sons slaughtered in war and then still lost, it was not a happy time. They were not particularly pleased with their Jewish neighbours that had betrayed them.
