Let me explain. The word "student" translates to "Student", plural "Studenten". Now that used to be OK, it means girls and boys. But not anymore for the SJWs, because there is a distinct feminine plural for that word also, and the indistinctive plural is by grammar the male form.

So now they are replacing the word "Studenten" with "Studierende", which translates as "those who are studiying". And where there isn't a gerund based noun, they have to replace the word with a whole subclause.
