It's the other way around. Academics like Timothy Leary started out normal, got exposed to research psychedelics, and then decided conservative values and social norms were retarded and went to work spreading anarchistic drug culture. As for Terence McKenna he's even easier to explain. He was a regular nobody who got into drugs and realized he could make a lot of money publishing books and doing speaking tours that heavily pandered to other drug users.
The CIA absolutely did not want the 60s to happen the way they did. They were looking to find ways to use LSD and other drugs to control people, and instead the opposite happened with the effects being unpredictable and mostly useless for their operations. Closest thing to a benefit they got from LSD was the idea of using it to make a political leader they were trying to depose look crazy by slipping it to them before they were slated to make a public appearance. They tried that with Fidel Castro though and you can see how well that worked.

I can not describe what I saw, but it felt like I was 'outside' of the realm that we normally occupy, and I felt an omnipresent energy directing pure anger towards me. I could feel time getting slower and slower, until I felt a 'pop' in my skull, and I was back in the room.

They didn't have horns or sharp teeth or wings or anything, but they looked totally brain dead, like puppets. Their eyes all looked black and void of humanity. It was very, very scary. I don't think I ever took trips again after that.

I think these people get so used to the straightforward explanations of things that they start to become convinced there has to be some secret "real" explanation that goes deeper then what normal people are aware of and reveals the opposite is true. It's a bad mental habit to fall into that probably leads to an extended stay in a psychiatric hospital for a good portion of the anons thinking that way. Not only is reality sometimes pretty well captured by the common knowledge account the general public is familiar with, I'd go further and say it's *usually* that way. Terence McKenna knew he wasn't right about most of the shit he said. He was doing it for money and was more interested in telling an entertaining story than in being right. I never used to believe in anything remotely spiritual until around that time, so regardless of whether or not the things I saw were real, the effects of it definitely were. The scariest thing about my experience isn't even the soulless eyes or the mindless bobbing, it's the 'fiery' presence of anger that I felt. I will never forget it. Yes, it really is that crazy here. For instance, even now, over 4 years after I stopped behaving like a degenerate, I still don't even know a single person that hasn't used cocaine at some point in their life, except for family boomers. It's especially bad in my town, because there's fuck all to do for young people. There's barely even any stores. So I'd say a good 85% of teenagers do drugs for a while. It's quite sad really.

No, probably closer to the 100th if anything. I did a fuck ton of acid for a few years, and I just used to enjoy taking it way too far. The first time I ever tripped was on 2000ug of 25i-NBOMe, and that was the heaviest shit I've ever experienced. I never ever did that again though, just actual acid thereafter. I didn't have a seizure or anything though, I was just walking around, thinking, talking to people, and probably acting very strangely. If you're having a bad trip, paranoia is the key emotion.

i think it's an abberation of your visual system. when you see objects, your brain peices together colors, shape and depth. If these boundaries aren't working properly on psychadelics, it is similar to the brain searching for familiar shapes in the dark. Our brain tries to fill in information that it knows and expects should be there.

Whenever I trip with others, I control their trip. It's as if I'm a psychic Chad or something. People often see me as some kind of trickster entity or demon, often remembering me as a being that came about during the trip, not before. Sometimes they get jealous or angry about my control over them and lash out in rage. However, when everything is back to normal they always want to go back to my mind field.

Probably only 2 or 3 would qualify as bad trips, out of all of them. One was at a festival and I just felt like everyone hated me, which is pretty dumb and petty and it didn't really bother me too much.
Another one was when a friend I hadn't seen for a while was really energetic and wouldn't shut up, and it made me feel on edge and I had to go for a night walk by myself to clear my head. I could hear my own voice talking to me inside my head, independently. That was pretty frightening desu. And another one was off a mere 2 tabs, but I don't remember much other than spewing everywhere and speaking to a lovely American lad.
I don't think I have mental illness, but I do know I was never the same after all my tripping. Maybe just a little bit unhinged, but I'm happy all the same.
