Because it's a fad, and fads are profitable. Veganism has been trendy for a long time, but they're only jumping on it now because someone just invented a meatless burger that doesn't taste like parboiled dog shit. It'll pass when people realize they still don't taste as good as meat.

Morning Star, Black Bean, Gardein, and others have been around for well over a decade, many of them longer. Veggie and bean-based burgers have always been delicious (guess why? they're made of food, and food tastes good!). I don't know why Beyond Meat is suddenly making them 'sexy.' It doesn't taste substantially better than a Morning Star patty.

These forms of meat will 100% replace real meat in fast food within 20 years, perhaps shorter. It's simply cheaper to produce and better for the bottom line.

The farming industry is pretty fucked, if they could clone or synthesize meat product that you couldn't taste the difference and had the some nutritional content I don't think I would really care. Also I think the answer to your other comment about beyond meat suddenly becoming popular is that the other companies were just poor marketers. When I eat vegetarian meals (rare but it happens) I tend to eat something that isn't trying to be a vegetarian substitute for fast food.
