Economically I lean left, and socially I lean liberal/libertarian, though I am tough on crime, believe in the family unit, and am generally against hard drugs. But I believe in workers having more control, I believe in fairer wages, and I care about environmental issues. I saw that Die Linke named its think tank after Rosa Luxemburg, who I admire. I'm no anarchist, but I am sympathetic to left wing syndicalist ideas. But I'm also strongly against Leninism.

So, the far right wing nationalists are obviously out. As an anti-Leninist/authoritarian, the DKP and MLPD are way out. I've heard bad things about Germany's green party basically doing ridiculous things. The SPD seems impotent.

The right wing libertarian parties have an appeal for me, but I'm obviously to the left of them economically. I really don't care about immigration, but I'm American, not German, so I could imagine that might become a bigger issue for me if I was European.

Die Linke as it exist now was merged from the eastern german SED (Those guys built the Berlin Wall) and the western german WASG, a Splintergroup that left the SPD when Schröder (Merkels predecessor) was Chancellor.

Libertarians aren't exactly a thing in Germany.
There is a single party which claims to be libertarian, the PDV. It earned the worst election results out of all parties with 0,01%. Even behind the Meme Parties

Only seven of them are actually in the federal Parliament: AfD, Linke, FDP, SPD, Grüne, CDU, CSU (Last to are sister parties, they share one faction in the parliament)

Usually one the two biggest parties ally themselves with a smaller one to get a majority or like now, the two biggest ones form a coalition. (SPD is the second biggest party in the current parliament, but they have lost many voters since the elections, second biggest in the polls are the Greens right now
