You do realise that those buildings had huge and deep basements/cellars, right? Also, 80 to 90% of a floor in height is just that, air so if compacted, the actual debris mound would be fairly "small" and could fit in a multi-story basement.
Those buildings were in direct or partialy in the line of the outer walls collapsing outward. Make a cube out of paper and remove the top and fold the paper cube out flat. It is the reason why building 4 has such a clean cut because the part that was crushed, was were the outerwall of WTC-2 collapsed towards to.
