>An Oregon teacher pushed a second-grade boy to “come out” as transgender after noticing that he wasn’t using the boys’ restroom at school, his parents have alleged in a lawsuit.
>According to the lawsuit, in April 2018, the teacher at Nellie Muir Elementary School became concerned that the 8 year old was using the staff restroom. Assuming he must secretly identify as female, she allegedly developed a lesson plan “in an effort to promote [him] becoming transgender.”
>In reality, the boy and his parents had arranged for him to use the staff restroom because he had a digestion-related medical condition.
>Yet on at least three occasions, the teacher kept the boy during recess and showed him videos and books with the message that “it is acceptably to become transgender, the lawsuit said. She allegedly required him to watch episodes of the reality TV show “I Am Jazz” and read the “I Am Jazz” children’s book, both of which star transgender girl Jazz Jennings.
>According to the parents, the school was dismissive of their concerns, saying: “If this happened in Portland, it would not be a big deal.”
>The lawsuit said that the teacher’s actions caused lasting damage to their son. He began avoiding feminine toys and games for fear of turning into a girl and became more depressed, aggressive and isolated, according the lawsuit, which added that he has started counseling.
>“He has also become afraid of attending his current school, seeing [the teacher] and using the boys’ bathroom,” Diaz said in the lawsuit.
>The parents, too, have struggled with anxiety, stress and depression following the incident, according to the lawsuit. They were said to fear their son will have gender identity issues.
