I'm from London, It's fucking shit but I don't like cities in general.
The nogo are shit is a meme. Yes there are places in London that are majority east asian, but they are as much a part of british culture as anyone else, they are kind too. I worked in Marketing in Whitechapel (always cited as a nogo area for whites) for 3 years.
The danger lays with the youth, gang culture and and crime is rampant in London, I guess where it differs from other cities is it isn't localised to certain districts i.e Bronx or Compton in NY.
Most youth offenders and gang members are black, having worked with disadvantaged young people in the past I can tell you its not due to race, its to do with class/where they grew up.
I'm not a psychologist but from what I've seen the reason its predominantly black is because older black gang members will take on a young black man rather than a young white man, they're just sticking with their own. That's why most petty crimes are committed by white men.
If you're in central London, near Soho you'll be find, be vigilant like in any other city. You'll be around a lot of queers, Italians and tourists.

Don't forget that England is squashed in compared to the US. Land is scarce, so there are a lot of people packed into London compared to communities in your part of the world. It does my head in. The good of London is there's always something to do, there are a lot of clever and interesting (if super-specialised and politically cucked) people and there is brilliant history and culture and by the latter I mean real English culture, not a negress who has worked out that if she goes to a middle class poetry recital to talk about oppression she will receive a polite audience. Walking around London is interesting and occasionally horrifying. Also the food is good and some is great, any Ameribro has been to London will concede this.
However.
Rent is insanely expensive. Don't bother with a car. Even if you're rich, I wouldn't bother to be honest. Trains and/or rentals for seeing the countryside and the magnificent old abbeys, cathedrals and castles.
If I were you, I'd want to live within walking distance of work. Other user talking sense though about make sure you plan your tube route. It is not a nice commute on the tube, it is overcrowded and full of diversity.
I'd rather do a long walk twice a day desu.
