Depends entirely on the worker. A high performer whose work can stand on its own will be fucked over, while the below average employee will get more benefit than they deserve. Just seems kind of unfair to me. I've nearly doubled my compensation over the last 7 years, and it's not like I started off really low either, low 20s an hour.

Meanwhile I have coworkers who can't even find the motivation to do what's in their job description, much less go above that and take ownership of special projects and stuff that's technically outside the scope of their work. If we were represented by a union, I can guarantee I wouldn't be as well off as I am now because the union wouldn't be bargaining for me personally, they'd be bargaining for all of us as a group.
