China devalued 10% meaning the tariff effect is reduced 10% and the 2/3rds not subject to tariffs are now 10% cheaper.
This will only hurt bigly if and when Trump imposes tariffs on all China goods. And if he waits a bit, companies will have time to stock up on inventories and search out new suppliers.
Not saying it isn’t going to hurt, but it might be a lot less than the Chamber of Commerce would like you to believe.

Some companies who are interested in high tech manufacturing may move back to the US instead of Southeast Asia because the support that they can get here from community colleges and government. Labor intensive industries will relocate elsewhere mostly.

The U.S. has and enforces environmental and workplace safety laws and regulations that manufacturers say are expensive and a hassle to comply with. China and Southeast Asian countries either don't have any laws or regs or simply ignore them. In addition, of course, U.S. labor is more expensive in both blue and white collar jobs than China and Southeast Asia.

Sounds like we should get rid of all those as they just hold us back.

They also make sure that we have clean air and water and hazards in the workplace are fewer. Ask your grandparents what Pittsburgh and Gary were like back in the '60s. Of course, the government can get carried away with nit-picking regs and that is a real problem with our main workplace safety rules in OSHA. The Trump administration probably is not enforcing OSHA as stringently as Obama, and may be looking to roll back the nit-picky rules and just keep the basic safety rules. I've actually read that most manufacturers are happy with the actions that Trump has taken to streamline and simplify rules, while still keeping the air and water clean.

Right up until you see how little of those rules are enforced and its a shell game.
