this is an important point. colleges almost never give up football even if it makes the school lose money because retard donors think the team's football team is more important than research and paying faculty. then again, getting rid of football doesn't guarantee faculty make more, most of the time it means admins make more. college athletes especially football players get a ton of resources that other students don't get not to mention a lot of leniency in ensuring they pass.
