And beamforming is only needed to overcome the extremely poor propagation characteristics of mmWave spectrum and to get the same usable signal levels at the receiver that conventional low and mid band spectrum do with 4G technology. The antennas are higher gain, but only because the atmopsheric losses are so much higher. As with 4G base stations, it's only an issue if you're literally right in front of the transmitter, as power rolls off exponentially with distance.
And the little black whip antenna in OP's video certainly isn't directional. Looks like a plain old WiFi antenna you'd see in anyone's home.
