Not long needed thanks to the mass importation of millions of cheap 3rd world laborers

I’m in one and it’s great. I made $125k last year and I’m a retard who got C’s and D’s in high school. OT baby! Union dues are worth every penny. Pretty sure I would’ve got fired several times over by now if I wasn’t unionized. Management can suck my dick.

if there was more right wing union like in the 30's and 40's it would be better

People shouldn't be forced to join or pay dues. Labor unions shouldn't use their money to lobby for things that aren't related to labor.

>monopolies are bad unless they benefit me.

What's your job?

Our union recently managed to negotiate a new contract for us that is worse than the old one in almost every way. We lost a tonne of benefits, company gained the right to stand us down without pay for no reason and new employees get paid less so they have no reason to keep us around. Oh but hey they got us a 20c per hour raise!! Woooow!
It took them over 2 years to negotiate toys contract. In that time any members who paid (not me lmao, I kept making excuses) would have given almost $1500 of their own money to the union.
Also this particular union is known to make large donations to socialist causes such as groups supporting immigration (gotta get those new undercutting employees somewhere) and gay marriage.
Unions fucking suck.

It's good when it's run by honest people who run the union as it's intended, but now they are 100% corrupt.
Just try to have a competing union in the same work space who gives contributions to a different candidate for office, etc.

What the hell, in what country are you forced to join a union? I would immediately join one voluntarily though if I worked in private sector. Now I don't have to be that worried, but I'm still member of private unemployment fund just in case.

>tl dr, you have to be part of a union to work in certain industries pre-1947 and its still a thing in states that lean more democrat.

Technician at a utility. Don’t want to go into any more detail than that because I don’t want to get doxxed.

Bonus points for this being in a country where unions have faced significantly more resistance than in other western countries to the point where we don't even have a Labor party

I think most modern unions do more harm than good. But they can serve a purpose to help keep businesses in check, even if it's only the treat of unionizing.

They should not be propped up or supported in any way by the government, though.

I believe in freedom of association, but I'm against those with political affiliations and if they use violence to stop non strikers to work.

Sound pretty rough but it's probably not that big deal. Here everyone is free to work without unions, but if they get in legal battle with their boss they will be on their own. In unions they can get legal help paid by their membership fee on top of being a member of unemployment fund. I don't personally care that much, I could pay extra to have legal help too but I think that if I get fired I'm not going to bother to fight in court and I just want by gibs.

I still think unions are important here. We have no minimum wage in law, instead unions have negotiated minimum wages for each industry. I'm not part of any union and my pay would probably be a lot lower without a powerful union negotiating minum wage for me.

I don't really mind labor unions. What gets me is government unions. Why do government employees need a union?

In the Swedish armed forces, full-time soldiers are continually advised to join a union, usually the local/first union representative ends up being your boss/commander. I found this so bizarre.

When used to keep workers protected from absolutely bullshit upper management decisions they are good. When they go after nonsensical injustices like hijabs and stuff, they are dumb as hell.

For example, I got a buddy with intestinal cancer. He told the job he was at he needs Tuesday and Wednesday off for chemo treatment and recuperation. The job proceeded to ignore that and give him a Tuesday through Saturday shift. So, he called in sick every Tuesday and Wednesday for treatment and they axed him for "abuse of sick leave" despite a clear paper trail of what happened because the black bitch who did the schedules refused to give him those days off.

A union would have been nice there.

Yeah, that's part of the thing. We do have shit like minimum wage laws, so a fair number of people don't see the point of being in a union, which of course weakens the relevant union.

Why wouldn't they? Just because they work for the government doesn't mean they automatically get payed shitloads of money.

As in, a soldier's union? Is that a thing? I've never heard of one, but I guess I don't see why they wouldn't ever exist in a country with a volunteer army.

>They should not be propped up or supported in any way by the government,

The federal laws regarding labor are the only thing unions rely on. Without them we'd be screwed.

That's not really a question.
Like, in the US labor unions have a reputation of being mob run, in the employers inner circle and basically just a bunch of extortionists.
Here, they mostly worked. But they took off when we had no niggers, no sh'Italians. I was just us and our ways. And sure, there was cases of union bosses skimming a bit of the top, shaving the sides, and even emptying the barrel. But it was never considered acceptable and so, punishment was dealt out.
All in all, the balance between employer and labor unions worked here. Until multikulti happened, things are in a free spin right now

Permissible by the free market, but generally a detriment to the economy. Potentially useful in a regulated market, but oftentimes they ignore their number one weapon (strikes) in favor of lobbying the government to pass favorable legislation. Then again, businesses do as well, so it's a mess all around. Public sector unions are the most cancerous, trade unions are a bit less so.

My union is an international, and the President in Kansas makes $700k doing sweet fuck all except hiring his family members for admin positions. When a union becomes big, it becomes a business in of itself.

>Is that a thing?
why not
being a soldier is a job like many others
