As a Russian, I can confirm that this is a drill. Instructor guides them and makes up a scenario on the fly, basically. Nothing special, really.

I guess I could go into some detail about these instructors. Usually, they're PMCs, especially Russian ones, sometimes SSO. So these goat-fuckers receive the bare minimum of training - so I wouldn't be too surprised by such strategies and formations.
