No matter what the subject is, their conversations are all banal, vapid and idiotic. Conversation topics are part of the problem, but I think though that a big part of it is that they're just lousy conversationalists. All I hear are lines from a badly written news story; there's no injection of meaningful commentary, irony, hyperbole, wordplay - rarely even intonation - any of the things that define and add depth to what anyone can find out just by listening to the radio or making up shit in their head.
