Doctors pumped me full of hydromorphone and morphine for months after my almost death and sent me home with pain killers for weeks and then just cut me off.

I can remember older tradesman (45-55) going in for minor surgery or just back or knee pain and the doctors basically forcing pain meds on them. This was back in the early 2000s. The ads for oxycontin on TV at the time would state that it was "non addictive pain management" and show some boomer holding his aching back, popping a pill and then mowing the lawn with a big smile. i had extreme reconstructive surgery on my shoulder a long time ago. they gave me oxy's at first but after they gave me vicodin i think or some generic opiate pain pill. i was on those for awhile and near the end i was mashing them up and snorting it because high school taught me how.
it wasnt the worst time of my life but it was pretty terrible. when i eventually quit them i had the most painful shit of my life after not shitting for about a month. i could see how some could want to chase that feeling, i never really cared for it. i would do it yeah, but id always remember how shit i felt when they were gone. and when they were gone that was it. i dealt with whatever garbage withdrawl it gave me and moved on.
