I had the privilege of driving down one of the only streets in Camden NJ where white people live. It was well maintained and quite comfy.

Had a brain fart, but after checking again, I did realize that East St. Louis is actually in Illinois and not Missouri with the actual St. Louis, so Illinois gets the dubious honor of hosting that shithole. And, Gary is pretty much on the IL border, so it seems that the closer you get to Illinois, the more you're going to have garbage cities.
Which is too bad since most of central/southern IL is just standard Midwestern farmland, but if you ever look at various city demographics, even the small towns are blacked with high percentages if they're anywhere near the Mississippi river.

I used to drive to Patterson, NJ when I was a teenager to buy liquor without a fake ID. We used to go to the most ghetto area imaginable that looked like it was out of some 1980s Robocop film, walk in with our late 90s frosted tip hair, and buy bottles without a fake id. The shop owners acted like seeing us was as rare as seeing a space alien and just took our cash. How I never got murdered or robbed is beyond me. It actually convinced me angels do exist, because I have no rational explanation for how we always made it home from our Friday and Saturday night liquor excursions.

Camden was a shithole but I think Newark was worse, at least in the late 90s. I grew up in Bergen County and we used to go to bad areas to buy a quarter of shitty weed and think we were gangsters. Been to Trenton, Camden, Newark, but we mostly went down to Patterson to do our retarded wannabe shit. NJ was a great place to grow up, believe it or not. Suburb life was comfy, food was good, everyone had that “I know a guy” mentality that could help you find a job, fix your car, or do whatever you needed done. It also had some real history to it, since most people were third and fourth generation that all grew up in the same 5 mile radius. Don’t buy into the Jersey Shore stereotype shit. It really was a cool place to grow up.

I've been to many cities where I was told it was really bad but never had a really bad experience(was a good one either) sure they were shitty places but D.C., North Philly, Southside Chicago, and Detroit weren't awful.
Worst I saw was New Orleans.
First came into city I pulled off right before the downtown area because my tire light came on, I accidentally pulled onto a road that was next to the gas station. Poorly patched pot holes down the entire road, more of the road was patched than wasn't.
Finally turn around get to gas station, put air in my tire start to pump gas and notice a drug deal go down. Stop pumping, get back in my car and drive away.

Went to Walmart for groceries to save money on eating out, saw 2 burnt out cars sitting on cinder blocks one was near the door, turned around and ate out every meal because that was better than losing my car, wallet or my fiancee's life.

Hotel was on top of a mall, went to my car noticed a dude carrying a cardboard box with sunglasses thought he was just trying to do a hustle of some knock offs, grabbed my stuff out of my car came back through and a lady pointed out that all the glass out of a sunglasses hut display case was broken and had been cleaned it out.

Bums literally every where 24/7 trying to hustle.
