Schizophrenia is a genetic issue. You must be genetically predisposed to develop the disease; you cannot just get it out of the blue. It is true that drugs such as marijuana has potential to trigger the disease, however the majority of the population is not at risk for this.
If you know schizophrenia runs in your family, I would avoid hallucinogenic drugs.
Weed affects people differently, some enjoy it, others experience increased anxiety. If you try it for the first time, use a small amount. Occasional use is not going to fry your brain.
At the end of the day, if it's not for you simply do not do it and carry on with your day.
