In my experience you have to be a good bullshitter to get yourself in the door to start to impress. Tell them what they want to hear. It is difficult for a honorable man to do such a thing but modern corporate environments require it. Put together an excellent resume that only speaks to your strengths and looks visually appealing. Most HR people are really dumb and dont understand the skilled position they are trying to fill, use that to your advantage.

I have no idea how LIDAR works but I think it would be relatively easy to code and the hardware can't be that much more involved than a camera sensor if you're just taking distance measurements.
