Mainline ones obviously don't; like all politicians they prefer status and quo. They can't fully push away the ones that do, though, because they've been relying on the non-white vote for decades, and that vote has been swallowing all the progressive stuff unironically. I don't think it's some grand Machiavellian plot, it's the result of many small and not well-considered past Machiavellian plots interacting in unexpected ways, then coming to a head.
