Why does the Chinese love building suburbs?
if feel strangely revolted by the idea of streets without sidewalks.
Even in their staged, government approved photographs you can see the smog in the background.
They love building anything even if nobody is going to use it because it helps prop up their economy.
Why? There's no cars or garages either. Nobody lives in those.

Except these houses are for the wealthiest party officials, while most people in the west can live in a far more comfortable suburb.
My area doesn't have sidewalks and everyone just walks/bikes in the street
i willing to bet that if you don't have sidewalks people don't put their fences on the road. but leave some buffer.
Yeah I used to live in a mega suburb with tens of kilometres of sidewalk that just led around suburbia, no shops, no parks, what's the point?

I don't see why people hate suburbs so much. Nice and quiet with some extra room, you get a yard, and you can entertain guests because you actually have space to do so. And most of the time if you need to go to the store it's only about 15 minutes drive. What's so bad about that?

In america you need a car to live. so yes girls see it as a symbol of security, ability, etc. in cities built for people - not cars - there wouldn't be any need for a vehicle.
