I'm an atheist; as in I don't currently believe in any higher power.

I simply cannot tell if higher powers do exist. I know that I don't know. People believe in thousands of different gods and that's reason enough for me to be dubious of those beliefs. Besides I don't need higher powers to live my life; what is in my hands I can control, and logically I can't do anything about things outside my reach.

I went to catholic school for 8 years. I find it more human to try to be good on your own volition without threat of damnation or promises of heaven. If you can be a good person without this, then why does it matter if I believe in buddha or a desert people deity.

I do not believe in some objective, external, authoritarian figure that has a set of written rules to dictate human behavior. To that regard I am an atheist. I do, however, believe in higher states of existence and can imagine there are things we are simply incapable of comprehending. Incidentally I do believe that there is a God, that we are all consciously experiencing pieces of; A higher state of consciousness that exists as the collective of all human experience.
