>Bloomberg News and other news organizations reported late Friday that the U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to open an investigation into Google’s compliance with antitrust laws. If it goes forward, an investigation will no doubt be broad, lengthy, messy, and impossible for Google and its investors to predict.
>That should terrify Google and every other big technology company — because there’s no guarantee that the antitrust Klieg light will turn on one company alone.
>This isn’t Google’s first antitrust rodeo. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 2013 closed without further action its own antitrust investigation into whether Google wielded its dominant web search engine like a cudgel to disadvantage rivals, drive up prices for advertisers and ultimately harm consumers. (Google did agree to some voluntary changes.)
>And in recent years, the European Union antitrust watchdog imposed billions of dollars in fines after finding antitrust violations, including over how Google conducted business with its Android smartphone software and its internet shopping service. In the U.S. and elsewhere, politicians from all party stripes have sought to attack Google or other tech giants for various perceived sins, including being too big for the good of industry and consumers. Being Google has meant dealing with perennial regulatory and political nightmares.
>This latest chapter of “As Google Turns” may have started in January on Capitol Hill. “I don’t think big is necessarily bad, but I think a lot of people wonder how such huge behemoths that now exist in Silicon Valley have taken shape under the nose of the antitrust enforcers,” Bill Barr, now the U.S. attorney general, said to U.S. senators during a confirmation hearing. The DOJ’s chief antitrust enforcer, who represented Google during a merger more than a decade ago, has expressed similar views.
>Antitrust investigations are difficult to predict, of course. Once the U.S. government pores over every internal email and business development contract, there’s no telling what it will turn up. If the DOJ moves ahead, it will also be an open invitation for every company or individual with a gripe against Google to pile on, and an investigation will embolden critics of Facebook, Amazon and other tech giants as well.
>It’s worth remembering that Google narrowly escaped a possible antitrust lawsuit the last time the U.S. looked closely. Portions of communications between FTC commissioners and staff later showed that staffers wanted to bring an antitrust lawsuit on a few matters including on what they said was Google’s strong-arm tactics to scrape information from websites such as Yelp and TripAdvisor without their permission to improve Google’s search engine. Ultimately the FTC commissioners unanimously voted not to pursue a lawsuit and possibly a breakup of what was then a smaller Google.
>That was a different regulatory agency during the administration of President Barack Obama, which was considered relatively cozy with Google. The current White House has been openly critical of Google, largely over bogus claims that it and some other tech companies unfairly suppress conservative voices online.
Lincoln Howard
I wonder if those silicone valley bugmen stuck their tiny onions dicks into politics with their online social engineering bullshit because they were told to or out of their own discretion.
Cause if the gubmint under democraps made them an offer they couldn't not refuse and now the same gubmint will fuck them for not refusing it, that'd be pretty tragic.
>over bogus claims that it and some other tech companies unfairly suppress conservative voices online. How the fuck do they still deny this?
James Rodriguez
>google gets hit with another big fine >doesn't matter because they have infinite money

They are the ones in echochambers. Jourrnalists still believe that social media unbiasedly represents reality even after all the censorship. They're liars and low iq.

This tbhfam. Google (Youtube, search, etc) should be cut into 100 pieces and so should facebook (instagram/whatsapp)

A couple of billionaire russian jews flee over my house

If the democrats were forcing them to illegally suppress conservatives they need to present that evidence. Or they can just get fucked. They should get broken up either way.
Justin Wright
How would you divide up Facebook, WhatsApp etc? Doesn't seem possible
Josiah Sanders
Oh yeah, they'll get 'em, right after fuckin' Amazon. All politicians that consciously let this happen and worked together with them should be lynched.
Gabriel Lopez
By breaking them up? They were independent companies at one point.

>dicking around with google >ignoring apple
gee i wonder who payed the gov off
Jonathan Gonzalez
Apple and all the rest will follow.
Carson Walker
blah blah more government gibs. the idea of a monopoly in a free market is ridiculous. remove the government that can be bribed and you solve the problem, how paradoxical!
Anthony Gutierrez

Lucas Williams
how do you break up facebook? break it into facebook1, facebook2? c'mon its not a trick question.
They used to be their own, although you could argue the lack of profitability with many of the startups that get bought would make the breakups fail long term. But this is a bigger problem in tech as freemium basically gives all control to advertisers and the (((monopoly))) which is why deep state loves tech so much. So by that reason I would argue govt intervention is required as it's an existential threat to our own govt and people. No org should supercede in power.

Facebook bought whatsapp and Instagram. An obvious way is to break those separate parts up.

Stormfaggots get out. Pol is a libertarian board This country is built on free market capitalism. If you dont like Google and Facebook then dont use it. Thats called Freedom. Thats called capitalism.

Why not just arrest them all and let the state runit? Fucking communist. Anti trust legislation is an unlawful interference in the market. The Free Market should decide this not the government.
Julian Walker
Freedom doesn't let you have freedom to help your enemy while undermining and subverting the state and its population.
Carter Howard
When had this ever happened? Facebook and Google sell info about people not the government and the info peoplegive them and its use is clearly spelled out in the TOS
Lucas Gutierrez
This isn't about their business practices but their size and power which they are abusing to silence certain political elements and thoughts from their platform. But I know you already know this and you are just a traitor faggot.
>to silence certain political elements and thoughts from their platform what does that have to do with anti trust?
Michael Ward
You dont have a right to use facebook. Right to speak doesnt mean right to be heard. If these companies dont want white supremacists spewing garbage on their platforms they are free to ban it. If you dont like that you are free to not use their services and start your own website. No one is stopping you
Ian Perry
finally you have shown your true color. lol that was easy That they can't be trusted.

>Stormfaggots get out. Pol is a libertarian board pic related >This country is built on free market capitalism. If you dont like Google and Facebook then dont use it. Thats called Freedom. Thats called capitalism. Listen boomer, have you ever tried to use a single app that wasn't effectively tied to Facebook's ad network? I bet you don't know that every time you open one of your freemium Candy Crush-esque apps that it effectively sells all of your data to Facebook. Your text messages. Your emails. Your data. Facebook knows more about you than your wife. They're an omniscient sales company that specializes in screwing you out of every cent that you have.
You have grandchildren? They're on some sort of dating app. You know what that data app does? It links to Facebook for verification. Facebook has effectively replaced the Social Security Administration that you probably hate with the power of a thousand suns and turned it into an efficient money making machine that will sell whatever secret you have to the highest bidder. If you don't like it, then in your "free market capitalist" system you can sue them. Let me know how that works out once you're in jail and some power lawyer throws a gag order on you after they take your house since you'll never be able to afford to go against them in open court.
These bugmen doing what you claim did not do it because they, themselves, thought to; the directives were likely handed down by the think tanker types above. Bug men only pretend to be smart but they really aren’t.
Levi Edwards
It's a combination of gaslighting and the fact they don't consider it "unfair" to censor all opposing viewpoints, all that matters to them is power, so of course they're going to do it if they can.

Google has received government subsidies and exclusive government tech. It's not free market, it a state capitalistic venture like oil companies. Politicians use it as a means of insider trading as well.
Adam Ramirez
>he thinks our current market is free fuck off, google got its monopoly power through government intervention in the internet in the first place, that power also has to be removed by the government
Mason Cox
Simple. Here’s a list of companies post-breakup:
Facebook Instagram WhatsApp Oculus Messenger (arguably) Marketplace (arguably) Portal (or just shut it down entirely)

Their primary fear is what happened in 2015 from happening again. The entire US was seriously debating the Federal Reserve being disbanded, and the wars we were involved in being unconstitutional, and that spooked the spooks. That kind of open discussion across age/group/etc. could really lead to crimping some weapon's sales and my chance to get mine. So now they want all of these formats busted up into smaller groups. Just like they keep 4hcan as the vent-shaft.
Ian Ortiz
Nice Cope. with these giant companies being broken up there won't be kike gatekeepers and NGOs censorign.

it's harder for them or anyone else to control if it's broken up into smaller entities.
Years ago the internet had loads of small options and it was a much freer place than it is now.
