This exact situation happens to me all the time. Travel a lot for work. Accommodation reimbursement tends to be on the low side in my industry. So I'll often go in on an AirBnB with coworkers to lower costs. A lot of private homes will charge extra if you go over a certain number of guests. Sometimes to avoid the extra charge I will lie about the number of people who will be staying in the house. Only difference is, when I get caught, I just pay the difference. Have only been caught once and the host was fine with just an extra $20 for the week so wasn't even a big deal.
