I don't think one can rediscover paganism in a legitimate way unless you can build from the derivative traditions that survived. And even then it will be difficult, as few will be compelled to such a thing. But if you must learn from any pre-Christian system of religion, I would hope you would learn a European one, or one that you have some semblance history with.

Romans had a system of religious equivalency. In Germanic countries they considered Odin to be Mercury. Isis probably had an equivalent.
