Nah, an internship. I didn't go there to "find myself" or some shit like that, I had a nine to five office thing going on. Just daily life in an irrelevant place that gets left alone, without being continuously confronted with the clown world, is a pretty good life.

Here's a pic I snapped during a short trip.
Some locals were having a village against village archery match and my three friends and I sat and watched the game for an hour or two, drinking some beers, chilling and talking. Those kind of days are miles better than even a 'fun' day here in urban Europe. At that time I think I hadn't even looked at any news site or forum in almost three months.

Yes. I learned that Vajrayana Buddhism is the complete opposite of what we in the West think Buddhism is (which is probably more like Zen Buddhism I guess). Bhutanese people, and I suppose the rest of the Himalayan Buddhists as well, believe in many different gods, worship dozens of saints, their religion is all about myth and ritual. Most people recite mantras but don't really know what it's about. It's everything but the minimalist philosophy that us Westerners often think of when it comes to Buddhism.

Also the detachment from materialism in Buddhism sometimes is used as an excuse for laziness. When infrastructure fails, people will shrug it off and mumble something about impermanence.
Which isn't to say that concepts of detachment and the transience of things aren't useful, just that they're often misused over there.

Didn't see sky burials. The culture in Bhutan is one of cremation, with some ethnic minority in the south that bury their dead when they can.

Animals everywhere. I didn't go to the south of the country so didn't see tropical stuff like elephants, tigers etc. But I did see plenty of pretty birds, including the black necked crane, a threatened species. Also saw lots of yaks, some takins in their reserve near the capital city, and some monkeys once in a while. Most contact with animals was dogs though. They're everywhere, a huge amount of strays. People take care of them and love them in a way, but aren't all cuddly with them because they're sometimes dangerous and carry diseases.

Didn't really have problems breathing. I lived at around 2500m, so only took about two weeks to fully adapt. When we hiked up the mountains — highest I got was 4300m, which only took a day and a half of walking — it became a little tough but never so severe that it disrupted the hike. Most of the Himalayas are really not super high in elevation. Yes there are plenty of 5000m+ areas, but the vast majority of the mountain range lies between 2000-4000.
